Patna, Oct. 27: A seven-year-old boy was found dead in a mango orchard at Paspura village under Mufassil police station of Begusarai district yesterday.
Rishav Kumar (7), son of Rajeev Singh, a sharebroker of Begusarai, and a Class I student of Anglo Indian Public School, had been missing from his school in Harrakh locality of Begusarai town since October 24. His father had lodged a missing case with Town police station the same evening.
The police had allegedly not shown much interest in the case initially. The spot from where Rishav’s body was found is barely 1km from his school.
“The throat of the boy, who was wearing school uniform, had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon and his wrists slashed,” a close relative of the boy said. He said the police had asked the family not to inform the media about the incident, as it “involved the life of a minor boy”. “Police ne ghatna ke bare mei media ko batane se mana kiya tha (The police prohibited us from telling the media about the incident),” he added.
Begusarai superintendent of police (SP) Chhatranil Singh said that the post-mortem report hinted that the boy had been killed the day he was kidnapped. “The involvement of a family acquaintance in the incident cannot be ruled out,” he said.
The SP said three suspects have been detained for interrogation. “We have taken the case as a challenge and will crack it as early as possible,” he said, adding that the criminals’ motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy was killed somewhere else and his body dumped there to mislead the police. “No bloodstains were found on the spot,” an investigating officer told The Telegraph today.
Earlier, Rajeev told the police that he visited the school to inquire about his son. “The school administration told us that the boy attended school on October 24 and left after it gave over around 2pm,” he said. He admitted that the boy would not have gone with a stranger.
Rajeev, who hails from Madurapur village under Teghra sub-division, used to stay with his family in a rented house in Kapasya locality of the town.
