Patna, Sept.15: The education department will embark on an Operation Clean-up and identify educational institutions that distribute degree or certificates without focusing on quality.

State education minister Ashok Choudhary today said: "The government's prime focus is to provide quality education, it will never compromise on educational institutions that only provides degree/certificates without focusing on quality education."

He shared his views during a programme organised by the Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan here today.

The minister's statement assumes importance as the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) had recently issued showcause notices to 88 educational institutions. Former BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, who is in jail for his alleged involvement in the Intermediate topper scam, had granted affiliation to these institutions with poor infrastructure. These colleges were acting as just degree-producing institutions without focusing on quality education.

The minister was taking part in a function at Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan, as the institution has recently made it to Limca Books of Records for organising 95 events in Chak Dhoom Dhoom Summer Camp. The Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan, commissioned by the education department in 2008, aims at honing creativity among children by providing them various kinds of training, including singing, dancing, sports and extra-curricular activities. From June 2 to 25 as part of summer camps, the institution had organised 95 events in which around 2,500 students took part.

Jyoti Parihar, the director of Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan, said: "It is a big achievement for us as Kilkari has made to Limca Books of Records twice. This achievement is of kids who made Kilkari proud."
