New Delhi, Oct. 1 (PTI): The Madhya Pradesh unit of the RJD wrapped up today, a day after its national president Lalu Prasad was convicted in the fodder scam case by a Ranchi court.
A RJD leader said the Madhya Pradesh unit was about to merge with the BJP and the Bihar-based party, with strong minority support, does not want to have any business with it. “The Madhya Pradesh unit of the RJD, headed by Sanjay Silwat, is dissolved with immediate effect. We have come to know that he was trying to tie up with the BJP and merge the RJD unit with the state’s ruling party,” RJD national general secretary Ramdeo Bhandari said.
Silwat and all the office bearers, roughly over 24, have been suspended.
Bhandari said his party was against the BJP on the issue of communalism and had been fighting it tooth and nail, as it believes in secular politics. He said a new state unit in Madhya Pradesh would be constituted soon after consultation with the party chief, Lalu, who is now cooling his heels at Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.
