Patna: Magadh University on Wednesday became the first university in Bihar where all varsity work - from admission of students to attendance of teachers and non-teaching staff - will go digital. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi launched the "digital university" project in the presence of vice-chancellor Qamar Ahsan, pro-VC K.N. Paswan and other officials at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies.

Staff attendance will be bio-metric at the varsity under the new system. Colleges, postgraduate departments, the university head office, the education department and even Raj Bhavan will be able to monitor the attendance.

"Digitisation will bring more transparency," said VC Qamar Ahsan. "Students will not have to run around to submit admission forms. It will also check the role of middlemen in admissions."

The academic records of the university will also be digitised.
