Madhubani art on trains

Two trains from Bihar will become the centre of attraction when it passes through railway stations. Patna-Rajdhani and Bihar Sampark Kranti Express between Darbhanga and New Delhi.

Patna: Two trains from Bihar will become the centre of attraction when it passes through railway stations. Patna-Rajdhani and Bihar Sampark Kranti Express between Darbhanga and New Delhi.

All bogies of both the trains will have Madhubani paintings and work is on in full swing. Both trains will hit the track by the end of this month. The purpose the using Madhubani painting is to popularise the art at the national level.

"The Madhubani painting on both trains will be completed by July-end. Patna-Rajdhani is a 22-coach train whereas Sampark Krati is 24," Rajesh Kumar, chief public relations officer of ECR said.

ECR has sent the proposal to the Railway Board and after their approval the work was started. Rajesh said: "We are doing this to popularise the local art of Bihar and also to spread its heritage value across the world."

These two trains would be the first trains in Bihar having Mithila paintings on their coaches.

The Madhubani railway station has also won the award in a station beautification competition two days back in New Delhi, Rail Bhavan.

The innovative competition was organised among zonal railways in December 2017. Balharshah and Chandrapur railway stations of Central Railway were awarded the first prize while Madhubani station of East Central Railway and Madurai station of Southern Railway were the co-winners of the second prize.

Gandhidham station of Western Railway, Kota station of West Central Railway and Secunderabad station of South Central Railway were the joint winners of the third prize. Railway minister Piyush Goyal had felicitated the artists who participated in the initiative by giving them cash awards and appreciation certificates.
