Patna: Minister Pramod Kumar will collect the best tourism practices from across the globe and then try replicate it in Bihar to harness the state's tourism potential.

Tourism minister Pramod, department secretary Pankaj Kumar and director Ashok Kumar Singh will go to London next week to participate in the world travel market. He will use the opportunity to learn tricks of the trade in his first maiden trip to a foreign country.

This event, first organised in 1980, is attended by players from the travel industry across the globe. This year the "market" will be held from November 6 to 8.

Professionals in the tourism sector also attend the world travel market, a business-to-business event where ideas are exchanged and participants share their USPs.

"The event is going to be big and my team members and I will focus on collecting details about the best practices from across the globe," Pramod told The Telegraph. "We will try replicate them in Bihar so that Bihar's tourism can be promoted in a big way,"

Gleaning information on the practices followed the world over will not be a superficial exercise, Pramod assured. The minister said he has directed his officials to collect hard copies of the documents with details pertinent to Bihar. "We will study those documents in detail and then fine-tune our policies accordingly to promote the tourism sector in Bihar," said Pramod.

The world travel market will be used to advertise tourism-related information about Bihar among the participants.

"We will showcase our USP in front of the global audience so that more people are aware of the tourism sites and facilities in Bihar. We will market our tourism potential in a big way," Pramod reiterated, stressing that increase in flow of foreign tourists would not only boost the local economy but also creates employment opportunities for the local residents.

Tourism department sources said Buddhist circuit, Jain circuit and places of historical importance like the World Heritage sites Mahabodhi Mahavihara and ruins of the ancient Nalanda university will be showcased in the London event.

The team also plans to highlight the successful organisation of the Prakash Utsav.
