Motihari, May 17: The students and teachers of DAV School allegedly took JD (U) MLC Satish Kumar hostage this morning for half-an-hour when he went to the institution receiving a complaint against a teacher from his son.
Satish’s son, Abhishek Bharti, told him that the teacher threw him out of the classroom after abusing him. Sources said the teacher, Kumar, asked Abhishek, a Class X student, to leave the classroom because the latter refused to follow his order.
When the MLC reached the institution around 10am, he was allegedly forcefully confined to the official chamber of the DAV School principal, K.P. Thakur. A large number of students allegedly pelted stones at his vehicle parked on the school premises. Its windshield and windows were shattered.
Sources said an altercation between the MLC and the teacher, Kumar, snowballed into a scuffle between the security personnel of the legislator and the teacher.
Receiving information about the incident, the police swung into action. Sadar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Radha Kant and Sadar deputy superintendent of police (DSP) S.K. Saroj rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The MLC left the school around 10.45am.
Satish told The Telegraph: “As soon as I reached the school and started talking to the principal about my son’s complaint, some teachers and other employees of the institution took me inside the principal’s chamber. I was virtually confined there for half-an-hour.”
The MLC said: “The principal and a few other employees of the school provoked some students, who resorted to brickbatting. They damaged my vehicle.”
The school principal refuted the charge, though. Terming the incident unfortunate, Thakur said: “The MLC should have maintained his cool to ensure the situation did not go out of control.”
The Sadar SDM also termed the incident unfortunate and unbecoming, especially on the school campus. The issue could have been wisely tackled had both the sides exercised their restraint in the matter, Kant added.
The DSP was taken aback by the incident. He, however, welcomed the decision of both the parties, the MLC and the school authorities, to not to lodge any complaint with the police.
Later in the day, the DAV principal urged the guardians of the school students not to act hurriedly on something reported to them by their wards.
