Leader murder suspect held

The Gopalganj police on Sunday arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of former JDU leader Tej Prakash Singh.

Patna: The Gopalganj police on Sunday arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of former JDU leader Tej Prakash Singh.

Tej was shot dead by a gang of criminals near Sadhu Chowk in Gopalganj district headquarters town on the night of December 7 allegedly over a property dispute.

Station house officer of Gopalganj town police station Sanjay Kumar said on Sunday that the police picked up a certain Mintu Srivastava for interrogation in connection with the murder of Tej, who had unsuccessfully contested the state Assembly elections from Kuchaikot seat in Gopalganj district as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate.

Senior police officials were interrogating Mintu.

The station house officer said raids had been intensified to nab the 12 named accused, who were absconding after the incident.

The investigating officer would also seek the arrest warrant against the named accused in the court on Monday.

Authoritative sources said the police seized a licensed weapon during the search of the houses of one of the accused.

The seized weapon would be sent to the state forensic science laboratory to ascertain whether the weapon was used in the murder of Tej or not.

The district police have sought intervention of the economic offences unit to investigate the ill-gotten money of some realtors.

The police have sought the list of the land purchased by the land mafia in the town.
