Patna, Aug. 11: Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) has submitted a petition to the power regulator, Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (Berc), seeking relaxation on the provision to give new connections to those who reside on controversial plot.
According to the present rule, a person wanting a fresh electricity connection needs to submit the ownership documents/papers of the land concerned on which he/she wants new connection.
Many people residing in some parts of Digha, Rajiv Nagar, behind the accountant-general’s office, Samanpura, Bilal Masjid, Kaushal Nagar areas are not able to get new connections owing to this clause.
“We have submitted a proposal to the regulatory commission to relax the provision to give new connections for those who do not have proper documents of the land. People are resorting to hooking in the absence of proper connection which causes revenue loss to the board,” a senior Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (Pesu) official told The Telegraph.
Berc is scheduled to organise a public hearing on August 18 to listen to the grievances of common citizens and other officials. If the commission approves the board’s proposal, it would be able to give new connections in the abovementioned and other such areas, he said.
