Medical student Komal Singh's mother Sushila Singh blamed the railways for her daughter's death in the Indore-Rajendranagar Express derailment.

Komal Singh, the 22-year-old who was pursuing Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Bhopal-based Mansarovar Dental College Hospital and Research Centre, was one of the passengers of the ill-fated train that derailed on Sunday.

"My daughter died because of the negligence of the railway officials. Had they been alert and started rescue operations immediately, my daughter would have been alive," said Sushila from her native village in Dumraon, 150km from Patna.

Sushila, a teacher with a government school, said: "The incident occurred around 3.10am on Sunday, my daughter who was in AC coach B-3 was trapped between two seats. Around 3.30am, we came to know about the accident after my daughter informed us about it over phone. She said she was fine but trapped between two seats."

Komal was on berth 30, an upper berth that came off its hinges and collapsed on her along with a heap of suitcases. Komal's mother said though her daughter was in pain, she never told the seriousness of the accident.

"My daughter was trapped between two seats, fighting for life for 10 hours. Had the railway officials and the people engaged in rescue operations been alert, her life could have been easily saved," she said.

The school teacher said she had a word with Komal last around 10.30am on Sunday. "She handed over her phone to an official carrying out the rescue operations. When we requested the official to speed up the rescue operations so that our daughter could be dragged out of danger, the official scolded us asking us not to disturb them," said Sushila.

Fighting for 10 hours, Komal finally gave up around 2pm. She died of excessive bleeding. Komal's fellow passenger Rakesh Kumar Gupta, who had a narrow escape, had to helplessly watch life ebb out of Komal whom he had tried his best to help.

The last rites of Komal were performed on Monday at Dumroan in Buxar. The family members said when they were coming to Buxar from the accident site in Pukhrayan, the vehicle in which they were travelling with Komal's body, met with an accident twice en-route to Buxar.

Komal's uncle Ajit Singh said: "When we reached Mughalsarai a truck hit the vehicle. A few kilometres from Mughalsarai, the vehicle narrowly escaped hitting a divider." The family members said though no one was hurt in the accidents, they felt as if death was following her.
