Patna: Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor, who is also the observer electoral roll appointed by the Election Commission of India, on Sunday issued instructions to take strict action against booth-level officers who act under the influence of politicians.

Accompanied by Patna district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal who also acts as the returning officer of Patna district, Kishor issued the instructions on the suggestions given by representatives of political parties.

"The booth-level officers don't visit their areas which they are supposed to," Kishor said. "They make a voter list (on their own), which later turns out to be invalid, resulting in problems for the voter. It is the duty of the electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers to ensure they make door-to-door visits."

He added that if any such booth-level officer is identified, an FIR would be lodged against him/her apart from being suspended.

Kishor also said that there was a need for special focus on identifying fresh voters and future voters.
