Patna, May 19: Summer camps over the years have gained immense popularity as witnessed by the huge rush of children. This season, swimming seems to be the most sought-after among camp activities for the children and the best way to beat the heat.
For six-year-old Abhisar of Class I, it’s the best thing to enjoy at the summer camp. Abhisar has enrolled in the summer camp organised by Patna Central School and today was the first day for swimming. All children were taken to Moin-ul-Haq Stadium where they enjoyed swimming in the pool. Abhisar said: “I did not want to come out of the water. All of us were enjoying together.”
Priyanshu of Class I echoed similar feelings.
One of the co-ordinators, Nirupama Kumari, said: “The first brush with swimming on the second day of the camp appeared to be very exciting for all. They did not want to come out of water at all.” She added: “The camp will also have horse riding, camel riding, elocution, drawing and aero modelling among other activities.” Rahul Chandra in Group A and Kavita in Group B won in the game ‘Ball in the Bucket’ on Thursday. This was held on the school premises.
Simran of Class III of Krishna Niketan said: “It’s great to be in the swimming pool. I did not feel like coming out of it.”
The vice-principal of Radiant International School, Radhika K., also feels that children are enjoying swimming to great extent. The school has organised the camp, which holds classes in cookery and movie making too.
Rahul of Class VIII from another school said: “Swimming is a good exercise and also the best way to beat the heat.”
Few schools like Montessori School had to finish its summer camp in the middle since schools had to be closed beforehand because of the order of the administration considering the heat wave conditions. Schoolchildren are enjoying swimming here.
St Dominic Savio’s High School has also organised a summer camp for its students of classes I to X. If students from other schools are interested, they will be permitted. The school wants children just to have fun during the seven-day camp starting from May 23 and continuing till May 29 this year. The school will take efforts to train the children in swimming with two coaches. Housie with cash prizes, indoor games as puzzles, group games, cricket match and talent hunt will allow children to showcase their skills, movies are what all will be part of the summer camp.
In order to let children beat the scorching heat, the school aims at providing them swimming pool on a daily basis. Seeing weather conditions, children will be taken on picnic at a charge of Rs 1,000 against which they would be provided breakfast and lunch. The camp will be organised at both Nasriganj and SK Puri wings.
Shrikrishna Science Centre too has come up with a summer camp. The seven-day camp, starting May 23, aims at developing scientific temper in children and assist them in using their holidays through creativity.”
Anurag Kumar, project co-ordinator, Shrikrishna Science Centre, said: “The motive is to make children feel the fun of science. Children will be seen learning scientific toy making and will train in electronics everyday through a project on making FM radio. The camp is meant for students of classes II-XII and will be held from 4pm to 6pm daily.”
Students of classes IX to XII will deal with everyday electronics for which each has to pay Rs 200. The total number of seats is 15. Scientific toy making deals with image multiplier, bird in a cage and many more toys.
Kumar said: “The toy ‘Bird in a cage’ will have a bird on one side and the cage on the other. The mechanism will be such that on moving the thing, the bird will appear to be in the cage. The concept is that the movement will be done on a minimum of 16 frames per second.”
Toy making is meant for classes V, VI and VII which has 20 seats. Creative art is for classes II, III and IV with 20 seats. The three will continue till May 28, whereas aeromodelling will be taught on May 22, 25, 28 and 29. This is for students of classes VI, VII and VIII.
