Kids' future in lurch as CBSE cancels DAV affiliation

School faces heat for failing to reply to showcause notice and violating norms on student-teacher ratio

The Central Board of Secondary Education has cancelled the provisional affiliation of DAV Public School, BSEB.

The board has barred the 15-year-old institute from conducting secondary (Class X) and senior secondary (Class XII) school certificate examinations from the next academic year. The official website of CBSE has uploaded the information.

According to sources, the viloation of norms was reported by a two-member committee comprising CBSE regional officer Rashmi Tripathi and former joint director of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti D.S. Singh.

The CBSE sent a showcause notice to the school in January, which was received in February 10, 2015, by the principal and the regional officer. The school failed to reply within a month to the headquarters regarding charges made by the regional office after a surprise inspection in October 2014.

"We did not receive any official notice regarding the disaffiliation of the school. We got to know it through the latest update on the official website. I won't be able to comment until I receive a letter from the CBSE headquarters. The school was probably disqualified, as it did not reply to the letter within the timeframe. I don't know what will happen to students now," said Rashmi.

A member of the affiliation unit of CBSE, Delhi, told The Telegraph: "Around 16 schools were de-recognised. Of those, 13 are from Patna."

The acting principal of DAV BSEB, Indrajeet Rai, said he was not aware about the showcause notice and that he did not receive any notification. "We will overcome the problem. It is not a proper way to de-recognise a reputable school. There is no official letter regarding the disaffiliation. We won't let anyone tarnish the image of the school," he added.

A report was also submitted by Nikhil Kumar, secretary-general, DAV Teachers' Welfare Association, to the DAV director regarding the irregularities of the school and violation of the norms of the CBSE.

Nikita Singh, a Class IX student, said: "I don't know what to do. I will not get admission anywhere. I even contacted the school authorities but they are not giving any direct answer."

Manohar Lal, a parent, said: "My son studies in Class VI and he is very good in academics. If the news of the disaffiliation is true, I have to search for a good CBSE school to secure the career of my kid."
