Preparations are on to give a facelift to the cell and hanging site inside Khudiram Bose Memorial Central Jail, where the freedom fighter was incarcerated and hanged on August 11, 1908.

The state government has directed the building construction department to beautify 3and preserve the spots of the jail.

The department has swung into action to revamp the cell and hanging sites for its fortification and protection.

The jail authorities had sought consent of the home department to start the beautification plan.

District magistrate Dharmendra Kumar said the government had approved the plan to protect vital sites related to the brave accounts of Khudiram Bose and further fortify it. The hanging site inside the jail is being properly covered and fenced. Its floor is also being cemented. Glittering stones and tiles are being fixed on the walls of cell where Bose was incarcerated.

The authorities are busy preparing to commemorate the 108th death anniversary of Khudiram Bose as martyrs' day of the revolutionary freedom fighter on August 11.

The DM said invitations are being sent to the descendants of Khudiram Bose belonging to Bahuvaini village in Bengal's Midnapore district.

"It is a great pleasure that a handful of near and dear ones of Bose still come here on the occasion. I have asked the jail authorities to send them invitation and take utmost care during their stay here," the DM added.

Invitations have also been sent to local people's representatives, social activists and officials.

"The passage leading to the cell and the hanging site will be opened to select visitors invited by jail authorities after necessary verification to pay tribute," said the DM.
