The junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Tuesday did not respond to the institute’s notice on why they had remained absent from emergency duty during the strike last Friday and Saturday.
The college administration had issued showcause notices to about 80 postgraduate doctors on Monday, asking them why their registration should not be cancelled for remaining absent from emergency duty. The health hub had given the doctors 24 hours to submit their replies.
On Tuesday, PMCH superintendent Dr O.P. Chaudhary said he would take up the issue with the heads of the departments (HoDs) concerned because he had not received the replies from the doctors.
“The notices were sent to the doctors in medicine, surgery, paediatric and obstetrics and gynaecology departments. I will ask the HoDs why the replies have not been submitted yet,” said Dr Chaudhary.
Notices were also sent to some doctors for allegedly abusing and misbehaving with the superintendent.
The junior doctors said they were “defying” the notice of the health hub authorities, as they had not done anything wrong.
“If our genuine demands are not met with, we have to resort to a strike. The college administration should not punish us. Instead, they should listen to us,” said a junior doctor.
The doctors had withdrawn their services for two days last week, following an alleged assault on two junior doctors in the emergency ward by relatives of a patient. They had also allegedly ransacked the chambers of PMCH principal Dr N.P. Yadav and Dr Chaudhary.
