A Maoist camp was busted at a village near Muzaffarpur on Wednesday but no one could be arrested.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint force — district police, Central Reserve Police Force, Bihar Military Police and State Auxiliary Police — led by Muzaffarpur assistant superintendent of police Rana Brajesh laid a trap to flush out the rebels hiding at Hussepur village, around 45km west of Muzaffarpur.

Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Saurav Kumar said the Maoists started firing at security personnel during the operation. In retaliation, the police also opened fire but no one was injured.

Sources said though there were around 50 Maoists at the camp, no arrests could be made as they all had fled. Around five villagers, suspected of providing shelter to the rebels, have been held for interrogation. Gas cylinders, police uniforms, utensils, household and domestic items were recovered from the camp.

Rebels nabbed

Two rebels — Anup Thakur alias Subhas Thakur and Anita alias Partima — were arrested from a hotel at Imlichatti in Muzaffarpur on Tuesday night. Special Task Force and Jharkhand police raided the hotel and nabbed them.
