Patna, Dec. 8: An All India Students’ Association (AISA) team from JNU has come forward to help its candidate win the Patna University Students’ Union election.
The AISA had swept the Jawaharlal National University (JNU) students’ union election in September. Apart from JNU, students from Central Universities of Hyderabad and Mizoram, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi University and other institutions have come to support AISA candidate Divya Gautam.
These students have largely been associated with union elections in their respective universities. “The JNU students have come to share their views with us. They are guiding us to plan our strategies,” Abhyuday, the national vice-president of AISA, said.
“The students are helping us in preparing campaign material,” he said adding: “We are asking the students in our university to exercise their franchise and come on time to polling stations with valid identification cards.”
Sandeep Saurav, the incumbent general secretary of AISA at JNU and a former BN College alumnus, said: “I know the problems plaguing university campuses.”
“Some parties see the poll process from a viewpoint of the ‘caste factor’ only. These parties will try to polarise students on the basis of castes to win. Ideology and issues concerning students should be of prime importance,” he added.
