Kahalgaon: Vikramshila Nagarick Samity (VNS), a voluntary body fighting for the cause of Vikramshila Buddha Mahavihara, the ancient world University, has urged the state government to select an appropriate plot for the proposed central varsity in the name of the ancient seat of learning within the next two months or face consequences.

VNS threatened to launch a fast-unto-death in front of the legislative Assembly in Patna if a suitable piece of land is not arranged by January.

VNS conducted a meeting at the Ganguli park in Kahalgaon township last week, which was attended by a large number of people from various walks of lives, apart from panchayat representatives. A large number of women from various parts of Kahalgaon and Pirpainty blocks too joined the event.

Participants condemned the government for delay in arranging land. "Three alternatives plots had been selected by the Bhagalpur district administration and a proposal sent to the state government in June. But the state government is yet to finalise it with the Centre," VNS convener N.K. Jaiswal said.
