Patna, Feb. 24: Rocky Kumar, a 25-year-old, hanged himself to death in his room late last night, police said today.

A suicide note was recovered from Rocky’s room that read he was taking the step as he did not want to live any more and his parents should not be troubled for his actions. Rocky, who completed his graduation from Patna Science College, had been preparing for the civil service examination.

The youngest among three brothers and a sister, Rocky used to live with his family at Maharajganj area under Alamganj police station. His father, Krishna Prasad, is a government employee.

The police said Prasad, on his way to work around 10.30am, noticed Rocky’s room locked from inside. “Normally, Rocky used to get up early in the morning. His father started to knock the door when he found it locked. The family members finally broke open the door with the help of neighbours to find Rocky hanging from the ceiling,” said an officer from Alamganj police station.

“He must have committed suicide late at night or early in the morning,” he added.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Another officer said: “It seems the boy was under pressure of competing in the civil service. It could also be a case of depression. He is the youngest among his siblings. One of his brothers had died in an accident more than a year ago. This is an unfortunate incident.”

Rocky’s case is one of the many similar cases in the capital, which has seen at least 10 suicide cases in the months of January and February. Most of the deceased are teenagers, the police said.

On February 16, Dayanand Kumar, an 18-year-old banking aspirant, was found dead in his room at Sri Krishna Yadav Lodge in Ashok Rajpath under Pirbhore police station. Dayanand had slashed his wrists, the police said.

On February 13, Shristi, a 15-year-old resident of Bari Path area under Pirbhore police station, hanged herself in her room and succumbed to her injuries the next day. Earlier on February 8, Pinki Kumari, a 16-year-old, jumped to her death from an apartment building at RMS Colony in Patna.
