The state government has decided to transfer earmarked houses under the Indira Awas Yojana to people belonging to other communities if cent per cent provision is given to the minorities.

Rural works department secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Thursday issued a notification to all district officials and deputy development commissioners.

Indira Awas Yojana is a flagship rural housing scheme, being implemented by the Union government, with an aim to provide shelter to the people below poverty line.

Meena told reporters: “The department has not only attained cent per cent allocation of houses under the scheme to people belonging to the minority communities but even in many districts of north Bihar, there is cent per cent allocation of houses to people belonging to the Scheduled Caste.”

Meena added that for better implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the department has decided to rank districts and blocks based on 14 parameters. In its effort to bring more transparency and efficiency, funds under the MGNREGA would be directly transferred to banks.

Earlier funds were transferred to post offices.
