Gunmen shot dead a homeguard during patrolling and took away his rifle near Prajatantra chowk in Nawada district, reports PTI.

Police said on Wednesday two motorcycle-borne criminals shot at the homeguard, identified as Kishori Pandey, from close range. The homeguard died on the spot.

Superintendent of police Manavjit Singh Dhillo said the criminals snatched the rifle of the bodyguard before fleeing late on Tuesday night.

Pandey was on night patrol along with two other homeguards.

He was attacked by the criminals when his two colleagues left the place to drink water, Dhillo said.
