Diwali and Chhath kept students away from campuses last week. But even as they were away, the activities continued in colleges and institutions of Patna. While some law students trained their juniors in schools to crack various legal entrance exams, others prepared for university polls. The Telegraph checks out what happened on campus when students were at home
True mentors
Students of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) turned mentors, as they successfully conducted the Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) examinations at various Patna schools.
Four students each from Kendriya Vidyalaya and Government School, Patna, were selected under the IDIA programme. These eight students would be provided with free coaching, along with study materials, for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2013.
CNLU students provide free coaching to law aspirants from economically weaker background under the IDIA programme - the brainchild of professor Shamnad Basheer. Because of lack of awareness mainly students from economically weaker sections fail to get admission to such law institutes. The IDIA is also planning to expand its base and conduct tests in other districts of the state.
Last year, Shivam, a student of DAV BSEB cracked the CLAT with IDIA guidance and secured 136 out of 200. At present, he is studying at National University for Judiciary Sciences.
Poll buzz
Student election will be the talk of the town when life returns to the campuses after the weeklong Diwali and Chhath vacations. Different student bodies would start their poll preparations. The university election committee has already announced the itinerary for PU students’ election, which will be held after 28 years. Nomination for students’ union election will be on November 30 and December 1, while students can withdraw their names till December 3. Voting will be held on December 11 tentatively from 8am to 2.30pm while counting and results will be declared by the same evening.
A student of Patna College and member of RJD students’ wing Raj Sinha said: “Once the university and college reopen on November 21, the 12-member team of RJD students’ wing will start campaigning from Magadh Mahila College.”
Various students unions are concentrating more on women colleges, as there has been a lukewarm response from the girls in participating in the election. Sinha said majority of students’ union are finding it difficult in getting women candidates.
