Lakhs converged at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday, but most residents of the state capital found little reason to cheer for. They rued that their adhikar (right) to enjoy during the weekend had been compromised with.

Plans to visit parks, theatres or restaurants had been shelved for the day.

Meet Raj Kumar Mishra, advocate and a resident of Boring Road. After working hard the entire week, he ensures that Sundays are left for his family. This week, he had to deal with his angry wife instead.

“Every Sunday, I take my wife and five-year-old daughter Shatakshi to the Eco Park as other days I don’t get much time to spend with them. My wife Pragya is always busy with her household chores and does not get any time to for herself. But today I could not take them out. My wife was a bit angry with me. She thought the rally gave me a chance to drop the plan of visiting the park. She said I should have made some alternative arrangement. Initially, she was not ready to listen to me, but after I switched on the news channels and showed her the crowd, she agreed that going out may have been risky,” he said.

“Thank god she understood the situation,” Mishra, 32, said in a lighter vein, who had to cook food at the end of it all, to bring the situation under control. Later, they watched Bol Bachchan on television.

His wife Pragya, 28, vented her anger for not getting the chance to go for the outing. “Sunday is the only day when Raj takes us outside. I wait for this day the entire week, but today was completely spoilt. I do not think any resident of Patna would support Adhikar Rally. Only those from remote areas of the state took to the streets to support the rally, while city residents had to remain indoors,” she said.

Sunita Prakash, 44, a resident of Patliputra, said: “Mita, a friend of mine arrived in Patna from Delhi in the morning. I knew she would find it difficult to prepare food for her family. So, I invited her family to my place for lunch. But she could not make it because of the rally. It is very disappointing.”

Sunita spent the day planning for the next activities at Mumma’s club, of which she is a member.

Youngsters were of a similar opinion. Nupur (18), a resident of Kumhrar, said: “My cousin Mrinal and I had decided that we would spend the entire day together. We were looking forward to this day. The plan was made well in advance. But our parents asked us not to meet up today. Now, we will have to wait for another day.”

She said she spent the day watching repeat telecast of her favourite serials and by chatting with her friends on the Internet.
