Haveli Kharaghpur (Munger), May 28: Maoists operating in eastern Bihar districts have storehouses in the most inaccessible terrains for keeping arms and ammunition safely.
This was revealed during a joint operation carried out by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police in Haveli Kharaghpur today.
The personnel of the 131st battalion of the CRPF and Haveli Kharaghpur police launched an operation codenamed “Khoj” from 3am in the Kharaghpur hilly areas in Munger, unearthed a storehouse inside a cave and found explosives near Choukath village atop the hill.
“We were surprised to find explosives and other items kept inside a natural cave located atop the 60-ft hill. No outsider could have imagined that such a beautiful location had been transformed by the rebels into a hideout and a place to store weapons,” said Bidhan Chandra Patra, the company commandant of the CRPF’s 131st battalion.
The CRPF and the police team found 1,080kg of gelatin explosive, long-barrel rifles, empty case of a rifle, six flashguns and other such items from the cave.
“We also recovered some items outside the cave hidden under stones. We had to destroy 600kg of explosives because the stuff were used in an improvised explosive that could have exploded,” Patra said.
He added that there has been no arrest yet.
“We had the information about the presence of rebels. Since there was no road to reach the spot, the Maoists managed to flee,” he said.
