Patna: The Super 30s run by Anand Kumar and former top cop Abhayanand - which help poor and meritorious students crack the entrance test to the IITs - have competition, it seems.
Awasar (Annapurna Suraj Prasad Welfare Activities and Social Awareness Reforms Charitable Trust), a non-profit organisation, is set to provide poor and meritorious students free coaching classes for the IIT Joint Entrance Examination, with boarding for 2018-2020.
"Students hailing from poor background would be provided free coaching only if they are selected after crossing different levels of examination for admission," said R.K. Sinha, BJP Rajya Sabha member and chairman of Awasar.
"The entrance test will held on August 5 at 15 places in Bihar and Jharkhand including Patna, Ara, Gaya, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Siwan and Bhagalpur, Ranchi, Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Daulatganj and Garhwa. The classes will commence from September 1. In Patna , the coaching classes will be held at Kankarbagh and students would also be provided with residential facility over here,," Sinha said.
Around Rs 1 lakh would be spent on providing free coaching to each student, he added.
"The coaching class will provide basic facilities to students, including books, food and a separate hostel for girls and boys. Girl students will get some relaxation in marks during admission. Many senior and young IITians will be providing classes to them," Sinha said.
Awasar trust mentor professor K.C. Sinha, said: "Many retired engineers and university professors will help students in their studies. This year, we would enrol only 50 students in the course. We may enrol more students in case we get more donations for the institute."
He added: "Scoring good marks in IIT requires daily practice and this coaching class will provide conduct regular tests which will help students in gaining aptitude and ability. The CEO of Awasar trust, a topper of IIT Kharagpur, Samir Kumar, has played a major role in the whole initiative."
