Patna, Aug. 1: Paras Healthcare Private Limited, New Delhi, entered into a tie-up with Hai Medicare and Research Institute Private Limited(HMRI) today to upgrade the existing HMRI hospital in Rajabazaar to a state-of-the-art multi-specialty tertiary care hospital.

Paras Hospital, Gurgaon proposes to invest about Rs 100 crore in HMRI, which will now be renamed as Paras-HMRI Hospital. “In the first phase, the hospital will have 200 beds. There is a proposal to increase it to 300 by the end of this decade. The hospital will treat cases of neurology, oncology, nephrology, urology with the facility of kidney transplant and cardiac care, including open heart surgery,” said Dr Dharminder Narang, managing director, Paras Healthcare.

He said efforts would be made to bring back renowned doctors who have migrated to USA, UK and West Asia.

He added the ownership of the hospital would remain with HMRI, while the other group will take care of surgeries and management.

Narang said the proposed hospital will provide efficient nursing facility and will follow norms of medicare as laid down by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. This will be the first hospital in the state to have these accreditations, he added.

According to sources, in a few years, the hospital will provide modern treatment for cancer. “It is proposed to install linear accelerator with computerised planning facilities and PET Scan. No hospital in the region has PET scan facility,” Narang added.

“The hospital will have all modern diagnostic facilities such as MRI, CT Scan and a modern pathological laboratory. For the first time in this region, a hospital will provide a wide range of medical services under one roof in the most professional manner,” said Dr Virender Sobti, chief operations officer, Paras Healthcare.

Dr A.A. Hai, managing director, HMRI, said while the institution would cater to all sections of society, the stress will be on bringing international standard healthcare at an affordable rate. “It will take a year-and-a-half to operationalise the joint initiative. We want to ensure that patients from the state will not require to go to Delhi and other metro cities,” he said.

Hai added that a large number of eminent doctors hailing from the state but working abroad have expressed willingness in returning to Bihar and working in the proposed Paras-HMRI Hospital. He said the institution would also mull over the possibility of opening a medical college in the future.
