Gaya, April 4: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given its final nod to start postgraduate course in gynaecology at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College (ANMMCH) here.
Admission of two students in the gynaecology department has been allowed. With this, four seats have now been allowed for postgraduate teaching, here.
Earlier, the MCI had granted permission for admission of two students in postgraduate anatomy course.
The MCI, however, has rejected the proposal to start postgraduate courses in six other subjects — preventive and social medicine, pharmacology, pathology, forensic medicine and toxicology, anaesthesia and paediatrics.
In a letter sent to the medical college principal, the MCI has said that postgraduate courses in these six subjects were not allowed owing to the shortage of teachers.
The MCI inspectors had inspected ANMMC between the last week of February and the first week of March this year to assess the availability of required number of teachers and other infrastructure to start long-awaited postgraduate courses in eight subjects. Prior to the inspection, the state government had posted 13 doctors at the medical college.
ANMMCH superintendent Sitaram Prasad told The Telegraph that MCI norms mandate a unit of professor, associate professor and assistant professor in a particular subject to start a postgra- duate-level course in a medical college.
An associate or assistant professor with an experience of eight years in teaching is eligible to teach a postgraduate-level course.
