A senior official of the education department was arrested from Patna Junction on the charge of harassing a woman on Sunday.

Police said the official, Prabodh Kumar (55), was taken into custody after a woman, a resident of North Dinajpur district in Bengal, complained to the Government Railway Police (GRP) that she was harassed while she was sleeping on the railway platform.

The woman, along with her husband and a child, had alighted from a Delhi-bound train and was waiting for their relative on the platform. Around 4.30am, Prabodh allegedly reached the spot and started harassing her.

When the woman raised an alarm, Prabodh, who is posted as the district programme officer (DPO) of Kaimur, allegedly threatened her with dire consequences.

However, he was taken into custody by Mohammad Salim, a constable.

The superintendent of rail police (SRP) Jitendra Mishra said the accused has been booked under sections 354 and 354A of IPC (sections that deal with molestation).

Prabodh has told police that he came to Patna from Bhabua, the district headquarters town of Kaimur, by bus. After alighting from the bus near R-Block, he went to the railway station from where he was supposed to go to his Kurji Mor residence.

The station house officer of Patna GRP said the woman left for Delhi on Sunday morning. Prabodh was forwarded to jail custody.

Exam scam

A special investigation team has prepared a list of suspects involved in the toppers' scam on the basis of information given by alleged kingpin Amit Kumar alias Bachcha Rai and his associates during interrogation. Bachcha was sent to jail after his two-day police remand ended on Sunday.

Police carried out another raid at Vishun Roy College at Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district on Sunday and seized some documents related to the exam scam from the institute's premises.

They also recovered a country-made 9mm pistol and five live cartridges.
