Patna: Patna police have sought the help of their counterparts in Punjab to ascertain the criminal antecedent of four arms dealers, who were arrested from the premises of Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib in Patna City on February 1.
Patna City additional superintendent of police Hari Mohan Shukla said on Monday that information related to the arrest and recovery of illegal weapons from them has been provided to the Punjab police.
"We will send a police team to Punjab to gather more information about the arrested persons if required. Initially we have sought a report from the Punjab police on the criminal background of the arrested Punjab residents," Shukla told The Telegraph.
Four residents of Punjab - Jasvindar Singh alias Shalu, Roban Mashid, Navdeep Singh and Bachchittar Beer Singh - were apprehended during a search of Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib on February 1 and sent to jail on February 2.
The recovery of a pistol, a country-made six-round revolver had stunned the police, as it looked like a foreign-made one.
It was the first time weapons and narcotics were found at the Sikh pilgrimage site.
The security around the gurdwara has been beefed up following the incident. Sniffer dogs and explosive experts were also pressed into service.
