Patna, June 29: Sleuths of the vigilance investigation bureau (VIB) on Thursday arrested the station house officer (SHO) of the Beur police station Rakesh Kumar Yadav on corruption charges.

Acting on a complaint lodged by one Amrnedra Kumar, a resident of Kachchi Dargah in Patna City, a team of the VIB officials laid a trap and caught Yadav red-handed while he was accepting Rs 1.25 lakh as bribe.

Kumar had alleged that the SHO was demanding bribe for lodging a complaint. Deputy superintendent of police Maharaja Kanishka Kumar Singh, who was leading the trap team, said the SHO was arrested from his office and the bribe money was recovered from his possession.

The arrested police official would be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna after interrogation on Friday. Senior officials quizzed the arrested SHO at the vigilance police station in the evening.

So far 43 public servants have been arrested in 41 trap cases across the state since January this year. "We have issued the mobile numbers of the bureau officials to give information about government employees seeking bribe in lieu of work," a senior bureau official said.

Officials of the Beur police station have been pulled up several times in the recent past.

Deputy inspector-general (central range) Rajesh Kumar had dismissed the then Beur SHO Sunil Kumar and two sub-inspectors for laxity in implementing prohibition.

"The Beur police station on the outskirts of the capital has virtually become jinxed," said a DSP-rank officer.

Shalin, as DIG (central range), had ordered the transfer of all policemen posted at the Beur police station for their alleged connivance with bootleggers.
