Patna, March 6: Students and teachers of Patna Women’s College took part in a fun-filled pre-Holi celebration on the institute campus today.

A dance competition was also organised as part of the celebration, christened Holi Milan Mahotsav, in which six groups from different departments of the college gave stellar performances. Sporting colourful costumes, the groups performed on popular Holi songs in the open.

Right from the all-time-favourite Rang Barse picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha to Do me a favour, let’s play Holi featuring Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra, not a single popular number was missing from the medley of Holi songs to which every group put their hands up and matched their steps.

Economics head of department Saroj, zoology teacher Shobha Srivastava and philosophy head of department Amita Jaiswal comprised the panel of judges.

Komal and Group kicked off the competition, performing to Rang Barse. Next to follow was Sadaf and Group, with its members performing on a medley of popular Holi songs, including Sajan hume aise rang lagana, Holiya mein ure re gulal and Holi re holi rangon ki toli. The group deftly used sticks as a prop to add grandeur to its performance.

Priya and Group performed to Holiya mein ure re gulal, while beautifully portraying the element of mischief as a part of the festival of colours. Girls, dressed up as boys, were shown indulging in mischief with their partners. All the groups gave a tough fight to each other in terms of synchronisation, expression and dance steps.

Principal Doris D’Souza did not take much time to announce the results. She declared a tie for the first slot and declared Alisha and Group and Priya and Group joint winners. Divya and Group and Komal and Group finished second and third, respectively. Principal D’Souza said: “Holi is one of the important festivals of our country. It is a festival that reminds us of the victory of good over evil.”

Ankita, a student of bachelor of mass communications, said: “The best thing about this programme is that it is organised on the college grounds.”
