Patriotic-themed dishes, desserts and other delicacies are on the platter for Republic Day celebrations in the city.

Hotel Patliputra Continental in Anisabad has elaborate plans for all its three restaurants. Deputy general manager Bipin Jha said: "At our café Coco Mocha, we will offer residents classic combos such as burgers with iced tea or sandwich with cappuccino at Rs 249. Foodies will enjoy discounts up to 80 per cent at Bistro, and complimentary welcome drinks and momos at Ciao China."

Hotel Maurya near Gandhi Maidan, the venue of the Republic Day parade, will offer residents a desi breakfast treat with special R-Day drinks and crispy jalebis.

Pukhtaan, the restaurant atop Nutan Plaza in Bandar Bagicha, has special buffets and live counter for jalebi and pasta planned for Thursday.

If residents are still in the mood for more, they could head to Sanjeev Kapoor's Yellow Chili for tricoloured mocktails (such as Ambedkar Delight) and desserts named "Bose ka Josh".

School events

Republic Day is always first reserved for flag-hoisting programmes and parades, so students in the city are excited about participating in the different events of the day.

Utsav Shrey, Delhi Public School Class IX student, would take part in the prabhat pheri (morning procession) from Gola Road to Danapur Cantonment that the institution has organised for the first time.

Class XI student of Notre Dame Academy Kanishka Singh said: "After the flag-hosting programme at school, I will spend the day with underprivileged children who live near my home in MLA Colony. I also plan to take them to the zoo with my father."

Neharika Ratan, Class VIII student of The Tribhuvan School, has planned to visit Gandhi Maidan to watch the Republic Day parade with her school friends. "We are excited to watch the tableaux. Later, we will have lunch in one of the city restaurants and watch Raees because all of us are Shah Rukh Khan fans."
