Four Vietnamese army cadets will take part in the passing out parade on December 13 after completing the year-long course at the Officers' Training Academy in Gaya.

They will be among the 170 trainees participating in the event on Saturday. Among the 170 cadets, 139 are under technical entry scheme (TES) and 31 under special commissioned officers (SCO).

The four Vietnamese cadets, who took training under the TES, would now have to complete the three-year engineering course from three army colleges at Mau, Secunderabad and Pune. The SCOs will be directly commissioned in the Indian Army as officers.

More cadets from countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Sri Lanka are scheduled to enrol for the year-long course at the Gaya academy. Eight more cadets - four each from Vietnam and Bhutan - have got admission for the next batch beginning from January. They would complete the course in December 2015. These cadets are recruited by their respective countries and have been sent here for training.

OTA Gaya commandant lieutenant general Rakesh Kumar Sharma on Wednesday said: 'Around Rs 1,250 crore have to be spent here for a world-class infrastructure building. A key layout plan is being prepared for this. It would take around seven years to develop the necessary infrastructure on the campus, after which the strength of cadets will increase from 400 to 750. There would be facilities like air-conditioned classes, stadium and swimming pool in the new infrastructure.'

Sharma distributed prizes among the cadets for their performance during the training. He presented the badge of association to the four Vietnamese cadets. Pham Hu Phong was named the best foreign cadet. The commandant also distributed certificates to 14 cadets who successfully completed their one-year postgraduate diploma in military studies and defence management from Magadh University. The course has been specially launched for the cadets undergoing training at OTA. In the next batch, 25 more cadets are pursuing the course from Magadh University.

Dhiraj Singh Bisht bagged six awards, including the overall all round performance commandant's medal. Pema Dorjee Bhutia got four awards, including the best cadet for sportsman.

Earlier, Colonel S. Sriniwas Sulu and Major Sujith said a day before the parade, a multi activity display would be organised. For the first time, a helicopter stunt will be presented.

Sarang, an air force helicopter team, would display an air stunt on the occasion above 70m from the ground. Air chief marshal Arup Raha will be present on the occasion. He will also unveil MIG-21 fighter plane that OTA Gaya has got for display.
