Central University of South Bihar students took to the court on Friday to start the annual sports carnival with badminton doubles matches at the Secretariat Sports Club Indoor Stadium.

Shweta Kumari and Fariya Perween won 24-25, 23-21, 21-12 over Sneh Lata Singh and Soumya Suhasni in the women's category and Sachin Kumar and Prabhat Kumar Singh defeated Abhay Kumar Singh and Avinash Bhardwaj by 21-11, 21-9 in the men's category.

The university's public relations officer, Mohammad Mudassir Alam, said the event will end on February 23.

Sustainable growth

The Patna campus of Birla Institute of Technology, Patna, organised a national conference on "Civil engineering and sustainable urban development" on Friday. Chief guest at the programme hosted by the civil engineering department was Jagdish Singh, retired professor of Gorakhpur University.

Guest of honour Chaitanya Prasad, principal secretary of the urban development and housing department, said finding a solution to dumping waste, and ensuring a sanitary and healthy environment was of primary importance to the state government.

Service drive

College of Commerce, Arts and Science's National Service Scheme unit held a rally on Thursday to educate residents about traffic practices - like giving way to ambulances - and donated blood at Model Blood Bank in Kankerbagh.
