The cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 104 crore as grant for payment of salaries to teaching and non-teaching employees of affiliated degree colleges in 2013-14.

After the abolition of the Vitt Rahit Shiksha Niti (unaided education policy) by the Nitish government in March 2008, the state government came out with the scheme of granting aid to colleges on the basis of students passed out from a particular college in a particular year.

The unaided colleges would get funds on the basis of number of students passed out in first, second and third divisions.

According to the prescribed norm, Rs 8,500 and Rs 8,700 would be given to colleges for male and female students, respectively, who clear examination in first division. Similarly, Rs 8,000 and Rs 8,200 would be given for male and female students, respectively, if they secure second division. For students passing out in third division, Rs 7,500 and Rs 7,700 for boys and girls, respectively, would be provided, cabinet secretary Brajesh Mehrotra said.

Veer Kuer Singh University (Ara) would get Rs 23.21 crore, Magadh University (Bodhgaya) Rs 25.78 crore, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (Muzaffarpur) Rs 11.89 crore, JP University, Chhapra Rs 16.22 crore, LNM University (Darbhanga) Rs 14.02 crore, BNM University (Madhepura) Rs 7.06 crore, TM Bhagalpur University Rs 6.14 crore and KSD Sanskrit University (Darbhanga) Rs 31.47 lakh.

The cabinet also sanctioned a proposal to develop 391 basic schools. The cabinet gave a nod to a bottling policy to manufacture and distribute countrymade liquor. It also sanctioned Rs 1.97 crore for Mahadalit Commission, Bihar, for 2013-14 and gave its nod to constitute Bihar State Mining Corporation Ltd under the mines and geology department. The cabinet also gave a green light to creation of two police sub-divisions at Saraiya in Muzaffarpur and Belhar in Banka. It gave its nod to create 12 posts and two deputy superintendents of police.
