Patna, Oct 24: High fuel prices and interest rates failed to prevent residents of the state capital from driving away with their dream cars this Dhanteras.

Sources said more 2,500 cars were sold on Dhanteras. Though the demand for diesel cars was high this year, petrol vehicles too did not loose ground.

Government employee Shyam Babu Singh, a resident of Sri Ram Nagar Colony was one of the lucky customers who bought a car today. He said: “I am luck to buy a diesel car. The showroom I came to had only three on display. I did not buy a petrol car as it would be more expensive.”

Small cars were also in great demand. Car dealers claimed that frequent snarls on the city roads prompted buyers to purchase smaller vehicles.

Alankar Auto’s director Captain Udayan told The Telegraph: “We sold around 200 cars on Dhanteras. If the strike at the Maruti plant in Manesar had not stopped production, we would have sold 60 more.”
