Food - Get the taste of authentic Asian cuisines at an ongoing festival in a city hotel

Hotel Chanakya is organising a 10-day Pan-Asian Food Festival at Samrat, one of its restaurants, from January 9. Residents can gorge on some lip-smacking dishes from Thailand, China, Japan and Mongolia. 
From Thai favourite tom yum soup cooked in lemongrass, galangal, kaffir leaves, mushrooms and green chillies to Japanese dish yakitori made of chicken cooked in brown sugar and red wine, the list of dishes food lovers can tickle their taste buds with is endless. 

On a platter 

Altogether, there are around 40 dishes, including soups and desserts. One can have the tempting red, green and 
yellow Thai curries of chicken, fish and prawns. Appetizers like prawn fresh red chilly coriander, chicken cilantro dimsum, pan fried fish in coriander sauce, gaisaitakrai (chicken dish prepared with Thai herbs chilli basil sauce), yakitori negi (a preparation of sliced chicken in yakitori sauce) and drumsticks tausi (a dish of chicken winglets). Vegetarian items like siu mai with lemongrass, man phat prik wan (a preparation of pan fried potatoes in garlic butter sauce), Hong Kong Bowd 
consisting of exotic crispy vegetables in hot sauce, jeetmantan (a preparation of steamed wanton stuffed with green peas, spinach and ginger butter sauce) and horensotaoo (a preparation of tofu with spinach and mirin, an essential condiment used in Japanese cuisine). The main course is rich in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, including deep fried fish in bird chillies, wok fried chicken with cumin, siu mai dumplings, lobster cooked in blackbean and schezwan sauce and roasted lamb in oyster pepper sauce. There are also various kinds of rice and noodles. 

Chefspeak: Uttam Sarkar, the executive chef of Chanakya BNR Hotel Ranchi, said: “The food festival promises exquisite spread  of hakka, Cantonese, Szechwan and Hunan delicacies. Also on offer are dishes from lesser-
exposed cuisines of Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.” 

Desserts to relish Layered butter cake with vanilla ice cream and krati sod, a Thai homemade sweet made of coconut custard with vanilla ice cream.
