Patna, Dec. 4: The Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park will soon have an added attraction of a floating fountain in its lake along with two other fountains inside the 153 acres of the park located in the heart of the city.

A nature interpretation centre and a new auditorium having a seating capacity of 100 people within the premises of the park has also been mooted. This was stated by deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi after holding a review meeting with officials of the forest and environment on Saturday. Modi holds the forest and environment portfolio.

The Patna Zoo which was later rechristened as Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park was established in 1969. It has around two million visitors every year and is one the favourite joints for morning walkers. Modi said that it was absolutely necessary to increase the infrastructure and beautify the park, which is perhaps the most visited place in the city. He said that the auditorium should have the facility to show films and documentaries on nature, environment and wild life.

Modi said that there was a need to modernise the aquarium and snake house and asked officials to make a visit to other zoos in the country to see how these two things can be developed to add more attraction for visitors.

He also stressed the need for a rhino safari vehicle to enable visitors to observe rhinos safely.

He said that according to the recommendations of the Central Zoo Authority an animal rescue centre should also be set up inside the zoo.

He asked officials to send proposals for the development of the zoo to him.
