Patna, Sept. 25: The operation of the city’s floating restaurant — MV Ganga Vihar — is likely to be restored within a week.
Its operation was stopped temporarily in the second week of August because of the Ganga flowing considerably higher than the danger level in Patna.
“The disruption in the jetty at Gandhi Ghat has been restored. Moreover, by providing additional support to the jetty and proper anchoring at Gandhi Ghat, we are likely to start the operation of the floating restaurant within a week,” said Naveen Kumar, the deputy general manager of Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC).
The corporation is running the floating restaurant between Gandhi Ghat and Gai Ghat from July 21, 2009. The BSTDC is also bringing floating jetty and gangway for the restaurant.
“While we would be doing some repair work in the existing iron jetty at Gandhi Ghat, we are also bringing floating jetty and gangway at the site within a month for preventing such damages in future,” added Naveen.
The high-level of water in mid-August had elevated the gangway connecting to the jetty at Gandhi Ghat and the high currents had shifted both the existing jetty and the gangway from their normal position.
Moreover, MV Ganga Vihar was not able to get a strong anchor at the jetty at Gandhi Ghat because of the strong currents.
The restaurant has the capacity to accommodate 70 people at one go. Multiple trips are organised if the number of visitors exceeds.
