Patna: Lalu Prasad's three-day parole to attend the wedding of his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav ended on Sunday, and the RJD chief was set to return to Ranchi on Monday.
Sources in the RJD said that Lalu would leave for Ranchi on Monday afternoon and return to Patna on May 15 as he has been granted six-week provisional bail by the Jharkhand High Court.
"Lalu ji has to fulfil the conditions of parole and has to return to Ranchi where documents of the provisional bail would be submitted apart from the release bail issued by the trial court. Laluji also needs to sign the bond papers which would be submitted to the authority concerned," said a source close to Lalu's family.
The RJD chief was not allowed any political activity or interaction with media on parole. Lalu mostly stayed inside the 10 Circular Road residence and spent time with his grandchildren. Although party workers and leaders visited to wish him for his son's wedding, he just accepted the greetings with folded hands.
Lalu did go - along with RJD national vice-president Shivanand Tiwari - to the house of his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai as per the tradition of the groom's father visiting the bride's father's house after the wedding. The wedding rituals got over at 5am on Sunday at Chandrika Rai's 5 Circular Road residence, after which Aishwarya formally stepped into 10 Circular Road. On Sunday afternoon, she visited her father's house along with her husband.
At 5 Circular Road, Tej Pratap and Aishwarya watched over Lalu and Shivanand digging into fish and rice, though there was mutton as well. Fish and boiled eggs are part of the diet prescribed to him by doctors of the Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences. Lalu had turned vegetarian on the advice of astrologer Shankar Charan Tripathi, who has not been visible since Lalu was sent to jail in December last year.
