The state chapter of Indian Red Cross Society will put up stalls at six Chhath ghats to help people in medical emergencies.

Red Cross volunteers will help kids who get lost in the crowd. Among the six ghats where the Red Cross team would be available are Darbhanga Kali House Ghat and Gandhi Ghat.

RBP Yadav, president of the state chapter, said: "Red Cross volunteers who would be present at the six ghats, would act as first medical responders. They would be equipped with stretchers, painkillers, spray, bandage and other first aid essentials. In case anybody at the Chhath ghat requires an ambulance, Red Cross volunteers would arrange for it."

The Red Cross stalls at the Chhath ghats would also get its Mahila Brigade's support.

Vandana Singh, the state disaster management coordinator, said: "The Mahila Brigade has been specially constituted by the state chapter of Indian Red Cross Society to respond to disaster situations. So far as their role at the ghats is concerned, they would also see that devotees queue up at ghats and avoid a stampede-like situation."

Vandana said the primary goal of the Mahila Brigade will be to help women. "The women volunteers are supposed to provide not only physical help but also extend emotional support."

"During the 2012 Chhath tragedy, there was no medical arrangement at the ghat. It is good that Red Cross volunteers would help people at the Chhath ghats," said Veena Bharti, a resident of Kidwaipuri locality who performs Chhath.
