
The College of Arts and Crafts organised the alumni meet on campus on June 1. Chief guest was governor Satya Pal Malik, while former chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh and Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh were also present.
Malik, who is also chancellor of the state universities, told the alumni members: "From a student activist I grew to be a political leader, MLA, MP, minister and governor. But the most memorable part of my life is as a student. I still cherish my college days."
He asked them to utilise their potential as there is no dearth of talents.
Former chief secretary Singh said special sections have been created at the Bihar Museum and Patna Museum where artists can display their artwork on the history of Bihar. "Students of College of Arts and Crafts can utilise this facility by displaying their artwork," he said.
Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh asked the college administration to set up a website with all the alumni details.
The College of Arts and Crafts was established on Govind Mitra Road on January 25, 1939 by late Radha Mohan. In 1949, the government of Bihar took control of it and renamed it as the Government School of Arts and Crafts. In 1957, the college shifted to its present location on Vidyapati Marg, and re-christened as the College of Arts and Crafts on April 12, 1977.
Mukesh Kumar, one of the former students, said: "We came to know about the illustrious alumni of our institution through this meet."
Self-defence camp
A weeklong self-defence course conducted by the AN College students' union ended on June 2.
Principal S.P. Shahi was the chief guest at the concluding programme of the self-defence course. "Such type of courses make students, especially girls, confident," Shahi said, thanking the union for organising the event.
Certificates were distributed among the students at the end .
Surbhi Priya, one of the students who had signed up to learn self-defence moves, said: "The self-defence camp will be helpful to us as we learnt various skills." Echoing her, another student Priya said: "Women are harassed, eve-teased in malls, markets and even outside college campuses. Such training sessions can then be a great help."
IIT convention
A team of 18 students of Central University of South Bihar went for the 6th Spic Macay International Convention 2018 held at IIT-Kharagpur. The week-long international convention started on June 3.
Public relations officer of Central University of South Bihar, Mohammad Mudassir Alam said Spic Macay is the abbreviation of Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth.
The organisation was founded by Kiran Seth, professor-emeritus, IIT-Delhi, in 1977.
Accomplished artistes from across the country render programmes of Indian classical music and dance, folk, poetry, theatre, traditional paintings, crafts, and yoga primarily in schools and colleges.
Priya Ranjan, assistant professor, sociology, and faculty coordinator of Spic Macay, said the seven-day event included 40 workshops, 30 concerts with 300 artistes of repute and music enthusiasts among others.
