Fest season kicks off at tech cradles

Students gear up for inter-college extravaganzas, plan lavish events

A prom night, quiz competitions and cultural workshops are on the cards with technical institutes in the city set to groove in the season of cultural fests.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) will start their fests on January 22. Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, began the fiesta on January 18.

Anwesha, the annual techno-cultural festival of IIT-Patna, will kick off on January 22 and continue till January 24. The fest, held for the first time in 2010, has grown in leaps and bounds with students from all over the country participating in it.

More than 70 events and competitions will cover the various cultural spheres. A prom night has been organised to attract visitors.

Special offstage events are also lined up to cater to participants who cannot visit the fest venue. "The institute designed some events on its official website 2016.anwesha.info, such as photography and short story writing," said Pushpak, the institute director.

Rock band Euphoria will perform on the closing night.

The Techno-Cultural Fest 2016 of NIT will begin on January 22 and continue till January 27. Cultural clubs at the institute will organise different intra-college competitions, according to their area of expertise.

"The fest is designed in such a way that everyone will have a good time ," said student coordinator Praveen Kumar Upadhyay.

Technika 2016, the fest of BIT-Mesra kicked off with a training programme on network management. The fest will continue till January 23 .

The architecture department of BIT-Mesra organised Vastyou 2016, which was inaugurated on January 18. The events will start on January 20 and continue till February 18.

"Participants will have to dress up according to a particular theme everyday," said Akshita Rathore, media manager of the architecture department at BIT-Mesra.

Workshops of bamboo art, nail art, wall art and caricature will be organised.

Students from other colleges looked excited with the wide variety of choices.

Radhika Singh, a student of Magadh Mahila College, said: "I love dancing and singing. I think Anwesha is the best platform for my talent."
