Patna, Nov. 25: Ram Dular Kharbar (35), a resident of Dhansa village in Maoist-affected Rohtas district, is all praise for the district administration for providing him a radio at the Sone Mahotsav (festival) organised by police.

“Radio is not only a source of entertainment in the power-starved village on the Kaimur hill but also a medium of getting up-to-date information about the happenings the world over,” Kharbar said, adding that such an initiative of the district administration would certainly strengthen the ties between the police and the citizens.

Sources said about 500 blankets and 20 radio sets were distributed at the two-day festival, which concluded yesterday.

Rohtas superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said about 200 people were examined at the free health check-up camp organised at the Rohtas Fort. The Lions Club and the Red Cross Society played an important role in organising the camp.

A camp was organised for farmers also. Sports kits, books, copies and pencils were distributed among students of government schools.

Earlier, SC/ST Commission’s chairman of Lalit Bhagat and deputy inspector-general (Shahabad range) Sushil Khopde inaugurated the festival. Bhagat expressed his displeasure over the district administration’s failure to use Rs 94 lakh for Rohtas Fort renovation.
