Patna, Feb. 2: A 17-year-old student of College of Commerce has not been attending classes for the past three months. She has, in fact, stopped going out alone of her Railway Colony house in Fatuha, around 15km from here.

Today, she gathered some courage and went to the weekly janata darbar of senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar. Her brother accompanied her to the SSP’s office.

Her claim: five boys, including a son of a policeman, have been stalking her since October last year. According to her, the youths not only pass lewd comments but also threaten her with dire consequences.

The history first-year student said she has been living in a constant fear of being harassed by the boys and so has stopped going to her college since November last year.

The teenager got enrolled in the College of Commerce at Rajendra Nagar in April 2011. The first few months, her journey from Fatuha to Rajendra Nagar were trouble free. “In October, a boy, along with four others, started harassing me. They would follow me on my way to the college and pass lewd comments. The same month, the boys stopped me in front of my college, grabbed my hand and asked me to go with them,” the girl said.

She complained to the college authorities about the youths. “The college authorities asked me to remain quiet and assured me of protection on the campus. I didn’t get much help from them. The group continuously stalked me in October following which I went to the Kankerbagh police station on November 3 and lodged a complaint. Later, I di-scovered the identity of the main teaser — Pawan Chandravanshi — who is the son of a policeman posted in Nalanda and studies at a private institution on the Boring Canal Road. He lives in the Rajapur Pul area,” the girl said.

She said the youths came to know about her complaint and started threatening her. “I have already changed my mobile number once because of their threatening calls. He (Pawan) says he is the son of a cop and does not fear the police. I stopped going to the college from November. Every time I leave my house alone, he somehow comes to know about it and follows me. In December, I went to the college once to collect some books and he followed me again with his friends,” she said.

The girl also approached the women’s cell of Patna police but to no avail. “No action has been taken yet though the officers promised me to look into the matter. I had no choice but to approach the SSP as I believe he can solve my problem. I am scared and don’t know what to do,” she said. The girl, the eldest among two sisters and a brother, lives with her parents. Her father is a farmer.

SSP Alok Kumar promised to take up the case. “It seems to be a serious matter and the police will look into it. The people who are harassing the girl will be taken to task,” the senior officer said.
