Bhagalpur: Bhagalpur police is all set to take action against Sugandh Jha, district vice-president of the BJP's youth wing, for claiming that unknown men on a motorcycle had attacked and shot at him.

The police have started investigating Jha's previous criminal antecedents, including his recent purchase of a revolver with an arms licence from Nagaland.

According to deputy superintendent of police (DSP)-City, Rajvansh Singh, who is probing the episode, Jha had filed an FIR on September 7, alleging that three unknown youths on a motorcycle attacked him at Mira Chhak and fired at him, injuring him in his hand.

"But investigations and a medical report indicated that no firing had taken place in the area," DSP Rajvansh said.

"Rather, Jha suffered the injuries during a confrontation with some colleagues, mostly property dealers. In the course of the confrontation, Jha pulled out his revolver but his opponent held his hand to prevent him from firing. And he sustained injuries during the scuffle, which he later said had been caused by a gunshot. We checked the crime scene but not one person had heard any shot being fired on the afternoon of September 7."

According to him, Jha has criminal antecedents and was earlier arrested in an arms case. He possess a fire arms licence from Nagaland and had recently purchased a revolver from Calcutta.

"We have started verifying the arms licence he got from Nagaland. As per norm, a person must get his arms registered with the office of the district magistrate where he lives but Jha is yet to do so in Bhagalpur. We are investigating the matter," Singh said.

He said Jha told police that he did not use his revolver but the police have found several photographs of Jha in which he is seen carrying his gun.

Singh also said that the police will register a case against Jha under sections 182 and 211 of IPC for misguiding police with false claims.

When contacted, Jha claimed he was a BJP ticket aspirant for Bhagalpur Lok Sabha seat this time and his opponents had made a bid on his life and also managed to trap him in a false case.
