Patna, Aug. 20: Special Task Force (STF) personnel, in a joint operation with Patna police, unearthed a fake non-judicial stamp and currency note printing racket during a raid on a house at Agamkuan in Patna on Saturday.

The police claimed that non-judicial stamps and Kishan Vikas Patra (KVP) worth about Rs 50 crore were seized during the raid. A middle-aged woman, said to be the landlady, has been detained for interrogation in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by STF’s deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Gopal Prasad conducted a raid on the house of one Om Prakash at Daudbigha and seized several bundles of fake non-judicial stamps in denominations of Rs 1,000, Rs 500, Rs 100 and Rs 50.

The raiding party was surprised to see fake currency notes in denomination of Rs 50. “Several bundles of fake currency notes in denomination of Rs 50 have been recovered from the house. They are being counted,” a police officer said.

Sources said the police also seized papers related to arms licences and driving licences. “We apprehend that fake arms licence and driving licence were also being printed by the racketeers,” an investigating officer said.

The landlady, Leela Devi, said she had rented out a portion of her house to one Dinesh Kumar for Rs 500. “He has been staying in the house for the past one decade. I don’t know anything about his business,” she told the interrogators. Her husband Om Prakash was not present in the house at the time of the operation.

Dinesh, sources said, managed to escape the police raid. On getting information, Patna senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar reached the spot. “The machines used for printing fake non-judicial stamps and other incriminating documents have been seized,” he told reporters.

Details of the non-judicial stamps seized during the raid are awaited.

The Patna police had earlier seized non-judicial stamps with a face value of about Rs 1 crore during a raid in Exhibition Road and Jakkanpur areas in April this year.
