Patna: Patna police and the state drug control administration under the health department seized fake medicines worth lakhs of rupees at Machhuatoli under the jurisdiction of Kadamkuan police station on Friday.

The raid was conducted by the state drug control administration at Medicine Pharmaceuticals, a medicine store at Machhuatoli owned by Krishna Kumar, on tip-offs that the store was selling and manufacturing medicines of different agencies. Patna drug inspector Sachchidanand Prasad said: "We recovered unpacked drugs, including 75 injections in three boxes of Patna-based Rathi Lab, which indicates that Medicine Pharmaceuticals was manufacturing drug of different companies at his shop."

The state drug control administration also recovered Oxytocin injections from the store. The drug is not meant for sale in retail and it is supplied only through registered veterinary shops. Oxytocin is used for increasing milk production of cattle.

The drug was not kept in a proper way flouting the necessary guidelines.

"Medicine Pharmaceuticals has licence to manufacture drug only at its ground floor, but it was manufacturing from its first and second floors," added Prasad.

The drug inspector said the raid would continue on Saturday.
