Patna: Bhojpuri artiste Khesari Lal Yadav has accused former MP Prabhunath Singh's nephew of demanding Rs 2 crore and of threatening him.
Saran resident Khesari lodged the FIR at Rasulpur police station on Friday. He alleged that Sudhir Singh, a resident of Masarakh in Saran district and nephew of RJD leader Prabhunath Singh, threatened him with dire consequences when he refused his extortion demands.
Rasulpur police station house officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar Yadav said the complaint has been lodged on the directive of Saran superintendent of police (SP) Har Kishore Rai. Bhojpuri actor-singer Khesari had earlier complained to Rai. "It's true that a complaint has been filed against Sudhir Singh," SHO Sanjay said.
He added that the incident was fallout of an old dispute between Sudhir and Khesari. Sudhir had raised objections over vulgarity in Bhojpuri films and alleged that they mostly relied on sleazy item numbers. "The veracity of the allegations levelled against the accused is being verified," Sanjay said.
The complaint comes in the wake of the actor's claim to contest election from the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat, earlier represented by Prabhunath. When contacted, SP Rai said action will be taken on the basis of evidences. "I have directed the SHO concerned to look into the matter and take action accordingly," Rai said, adding that Sudhir's credentials were also being verified.
Bank loot
Six masked criminals looted Rs 3.6 lakh from Bank of India at Sakri-Saraiyaa in Muzaffarpur on Friday. The gang held the bank employees and few customers captive.
Senior superintendent of police Harpreet Kaur visited the bank to take stock of the situation. The villagers demonstrated against officers of the Turki outpost for their negligence in tacking crimes in the area.
