Paediatricians from across the country would advise doctors at primary health centres and district hospitals on how to provide quality services to infants with limited resources.

Utpal Kant Singh, member, Bihar Chapter of National Neonatology Forum, said on Friday that paediatricians would share developments in the field of neonatal care at the 3rd convention of National Neonatology Forum to be organised on August 24 and August 25.

Singh said: “Around 250 to 300 paediatricians are expected to participate in the conference. The aim behind organising the programme is to provide doctors a platform to share the latest information on neonatal care.”

B.P. Jaiswal, the organising secretary of the programme and a member of National Neonatology Forum, said: “The experts would advise doctors working at the primary health care centres and district hospitals on how to provide quality healthcare services to the infants by making use of the limited resources available before them.”

The experts would throw light on many such issues related to infant health problems. Shravan Kumar, the president of National Neonatology Forum, said: “Newborns might suffer from serious health problems if they don’t cry. Such infants might lose their lives if they are not diagnosed and treated at the right time.”

The doctors would discuss the advanced neonatal resuscitation programme in which they would advise people how to handle such kinds of situations, Shravan said. They would also discuss about septicemia (a disease caused due to infection) and what should be done to prevent it.

Jaiswal said: “The infants face various kinds of problems such as pneumonia, diarrhoea and others. Some of them also suffer from congenital diseases.”
